Dear friends,

Many of our families will be on Autumn break and we hope they are enjoying this time together. In today's newsletter you will find information on some uplifting musical concerts which are coming up soon, and a silent retreat organised by the Turku parishes towards the end of November.

At our service for All Saints Day on the last Sunday of this month, we will remember with thanksgiving those who have died. If you would like the name of a loved one to be read out then please email me or let one of the Church Wardens know on Sunday.

Coming up next month we have a Unicef fundraiser on November 7th after coffee, run by the youth, and on the 11th we have the Armistice Day service at St Henry's in conjunction with the British Embassy. Remembrance Sunday falls on November 14th and as usual we will have poppies available, proceeds of which go to the work of the British Legion.

Best wishes,
Sarah

Silent Retreat in English By Maria Vatanen

d76bd1fc-f7c9-f99f-349d-1c8980309598
Have you ever considered the power of silence?

Quiet. Freedom. Space. Mindfulness. Self-Awareness. Calm. Spirituality.

And do you ever need to retreat, to pull back, to shelter from or just change your situation for a time?

No distractions. No conflict. No gadgets. No housework. No work. No news.
It may be that you are lucky enough to already benefit from regular meditation or walks alone in nature. It may also be that your life is busy, noisy, full of constant chattering, requests from family, demands from work, thoughts that fill your head at all times of the day and night.

Either way, we invite you to consider joining the next Silent Retreat with TCIC!

You will have:

  • A simple room and bathroom to yourself.
  • Good food prepared and served with care by “someone else” and accompanied by gentle music.
  • Lakeside sauna.
  • Time to reflect, wander, create, read, write; to just be.
  • An atmosphere of peace where we can all be alone together with God.
And we will share
  • Prayer & Communion services overlooking forest, lake, and big sky – all God’s creation.
  • Meditations based on the theme, to relax your body and guide your thoughts.
Being on silent retreat is not just about being quiet. Being silent, in addition to quietness, is entering a sacred space within yourself, freedom from the endlessly thinking of modern, everyday life. To be intentionally silence is to cultivate self-awareness. At Tammilehti, there is no need to acknowledge those around you, you can ponder and wander uninterrupted.

Walk in the forest or along the lakeside. Take in the fresh air and activate all your senses as you enjoy the nature encompassing you. Lie on your bed or curl up on a sofa or armchair and read; explore new knowledge and ideas, or revisit familiar texts. Take time to really enjoy a hot drink; observe the steam, feel the warmth of the cup, hear the chink of the spoon against the ceramic, inhale the aroma and taste the real flavour. Breath deeply, enjoy just being, in warmth and safety with others and explore the peace of silent retreat in English.

If you like the sound of all this, consider joining us.
“Lift up your eyes: The Lord is near.”
