At a Church of England funeral it is natural to grieve because someone you know and love has died, but there will also be a strong message of hope in life after death.
If you would like the Anglican Chaplain to officiate at a funeral please get in touch with us. The Chaplain will visit a family before a funeral, to tailor the service in a personal way and to offer pastoral care to those who have been bereaved. We are here to help you so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
“If God is for us, who is against us? … I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rules, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 8.31b, 38, 39
Arranging the funeral
To arrange a funeral service you will need to get in touch with your Lutheran Parish office. All bookings are handled by the Parish office and the Anglican Chaplain cannot make bookings directly.
For example in Helsinki the Parish details are as follows:
Helsinki Cathedral Parish
e-mail: tilavaraukset.tuomiokirkkosrk@evl.fi
phone: 09 2340 6111
Street address: Bulevardi 16 B, 1. Krs
Please check the availability of the Chaplain before making the booking, and when communicating with the Parish please let them know that the Anglican Chaplain will be presiding at the service.
The Service
The Service follows the format of a Church of England funeral. You can discuss with the Chaplain which readings you would like at the Service and whether you would like to make a collection for charity. If you are planning a leaflet for the service, we can help with that as well. You can find prayers of comfort and other information about a Church of England funeral service here https://www.churchofengland.org/life-events/funerals/prayers
Accompanist / organist
If agreed, the Chaplain can make inquiries for a pianist or an organist for the service. Normally, the Lutheran Church does not arrange an organist.
Reception after a Funeral service
This is solely a matter between the family and the Lutheran parish. This is to respect – with gratitude – our agreement with the Lutheran Church.
Fees
The Church does not impose any mandatory fee for pastoral services. However, we suggest that a donation could be made, in line with The Church of England’s Parochial Fees, to support the continuing mission of the Church.
Organist/pianist 100 euros
Choir – 70 euros per member Order of Service editing & printing cost – 30 euros (max 100 copies)
