It was disappointing to read that COVID restrictions in the Helsinki area remain almost unchanged in June. It was also very disappointing to learn that we are unable to arrange an outdoor Pentecost service this coming Sunday. However the safety of everyone attending services and other events is imperative and we continue to follow instructions from the Government, City of Helsinki and the Diocese in Europe. We are looking for new people to take up various responsibilities in the church. Please contact Sarah if you would be interested in contributing your time and talents for the good of the Church.

Many of you are looking ahead to summer and will be making holiday plans. The Church continues to offer prayers and support for those in need. We have a modest stock of dry food available and both myself and Fr Parvez are available for pastoral support. Please find our contact details at the end of this newsletter.

Some of you remember Bishop Michael Manktelow and his wife Roz. They were great friends of the Chaplaincy and visited here many times as Bishop Michael served as a locum. They were a great support to me personally. It was with great sadness that I received news of the death of Roz last night. Bishop Michael died a few years ago and they are survived by their children who remain in our prayers.

Sunday School & Youth Group:
Today at online Sunday School we learnt about Jesus’ ascension into heaven and what he said to his disciples before he left. We talked about what we would say to our friends and loved ones. For our craft we made these spirals which ‘ascend’ when you pull up the centre! We then practiced saying the Lord’s Prayer in sign language. Thank you to the children for their beautiful spirals!

Card Making Leader needed!
David and myself wonder if there is anyone willing to take over the card making group leadership role. It involves organising a card making event at the church roughly every 3 months, buying supplies that can be delivered to Tuomas, arranging the card trolley to be out after Sunday service and leading a stall at the bazaar. You could be the leader and organise others to do the roles and of course you could make changes to suit your style or ideas. It is a lovely, social way to be involved in the church community. Any questions, just ask. Many thanks, Katrina

Reminder about the Annual Chaplaincy Meeting
Coronavirus restrictions on worship have been extended until the end of May and therefore the Church Council has decided to POSTPONE the Annual Chaplaincy Meeting (formerly known as the AGM) until it is safe for us to meet in person. We have many members who would be unable to join a purely online meeting and it was felt that this would be both unfair and undesirable. In the interest of the whole Church community we will wait until there is a greater opportunity to gather physically, as the restrictions ease later on. In the meantime you can read our Annual Report here: Annual Report 2020
|
We are working to make it a hybrid event so that people can attend either physically or online.
