Dear friends,

Father Tuomas returns from his Summer leave on Monday and will be presiding over the Eucharist next Sunday on 15th August. This Sunday (8th) Father Isaac will be presiding and preaching. Erik is keen to welcome any members of the congregation who feel able to join our rehearsals again and sing at the Sunday Eucharist. Many of our Sunday School children are back to school next week or starting school for the first time - please keep them in your prayers.

I thought I would share with you the story behind the image for this week's service sheet! After trawling the internet for a suitable picture to reflect our Gospel reading I came across one by an artist in America called Anneli Anderson. I noticed that there were a lot of birch trees in her other paintings and mentioned that they looked quite Finnish! I contacted her to see if I could use an image of her painting and received a lovely reply telling me she was a Swede-Finn! Her paternal grandfather grew up in Vaasa, he had emigrated to the US when he was a teenager but then returned after he became a minister and went on to marry Anneli's grandmother who grew up in Sundom. Her mother's side of the family came from Sweden. As a teenager Anneli had enjoyed visiting Finland and Sweden with her parents and says she would love to return someday as an adult to cherish it even more. She grew up in Alaska and the birch trees I mentioned before are some of her favourites to paint (apparently there are lots of birch trees in Alaska too!) You can view her art at StudioAnneli.com.

Hope you have had a wonderful Summer and we look forward to welcoming you at Church, especially as we have two baptisms to celebrate this month! As always we need plenty of volunteers so please do use the online sign-up sheets or get in touch by email.

Best wishes,
Sarah

ANNUAL CHAPLAINCY MEETING- Sunday 29th August 2021

We are now getting closer to the ACM, so please consider standing for one of our lay roles. You can pick up a form at the back of church or download it from the website and, if the person you wish to stand agrees then you can sign the section which requires them to have a 'Proposer'. The completed forms can be handed back to Rebecca at the entrance, or to the Churchwardens. We have a leaflet coming soon which gives an overview of the lay roles which are so vital to the life of the Chaplaincy!

Please remember that in order to stand for election or to vote at the meeting you need to be on the Electoral Roll. If you added your name to the electoral roll back in 2019 then you don't need to put your name down again until 2025, but if you are unsure or would like to check then please don't hesitate to get in touch with Sarah in the office.

To be added to the Electoral Roll and/or to stand for one of our lay roles then please fill out the relevant form and return it before the ACM. You can now pick up nomination and electoral roll forms at the back of Church or download them from our website: https://www.anglican.fi/registration-forms/
